Selective Mutism Research Institute
SMRI
The SMRI is 501c3, nonprofit organization, that is generously funded from a family who lives in Chicago, Illinois. The familly is 100% supporting the efforts of SMRI due to their success in treatment with Dr. Shipon-Blum via the Smart Center .
SMRI is a private foundation (501c3, nonprofit organization) dedicated to the research of Selective Mutism; specifically, Dr. Shipon-Blum's treatment and theories.
SMRI understands the urgent need for research to study Selective Mutism.
Treating professionals and educators rely on published RESEARCH to guide them when working with a child.
To date, most of the published research studies are based on small samples of children and subjective findings rather than large sample sizes and objective findings.
As a result there is not a consistent understanding of the characteristics and treatment philosophies within the scientific and clinical community nor standards for the development of school-based accommodations/interventions.
The Smart Center, under the directorship of Dr. Elisa Shipon-Blum, has acquired an abundance of varied assessment and clinical data from over 1500+ children/teens affected by SM. In addition, the Smart center has collected contact information on families within the USA and abroad who are interested in participating in research.
It is our belief that when this data is properly researched it will foster increased awareness and understanding of those suffering in silence which will ultimately influence treatment and school accommodations/interventions.
