SMRI’s primary mission is to stimulate research for a better understanding of Selective Mutism which will lead to significant improvements in screening, evaluation/assessment, early diagnosis, treatment and development of school-based accommodations/interventions with the ultimate goal of positively affecting the lives of children affected by Selective
Broad goals of SMRI are to:
Initiatives:
-Provide resources to analyze already compiled data at the Smart Center.
-Acquire new written assessment and treatment data for analysis
-Capture observational data for video analysis
Collaboration:
-Collaborate with pre-doctoral, post-doctoral and institutional/private sector researchers to analyze existing and acquire new data (via proposals), study theories of SM as well as recruit participants for study.
Grantmaking:
-Provide grant money, in conjunction with captured data to encourage secondary research AND to acquire new data for the intent of publication in the psychological, medical and academic fields.
*Grant money will be provided to Master level, pre-doctoral level students for dissertations, Researchers at universities and the private sector based on specific nondiscrimatory criteria.
